December 1, 2022 | BPS Activities

The Central Statistics Agency of West Sulawesi Province held a Regional Coordination Meeting for the 2023 Agricultural Census at the Ballroom of the Grand Maleo Hotel and Convention, Mamuju, Thursday (1/12)

According to the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 16 of 1997 concerning Statistics, BPS is responsible for providing basic statistics by organizing Population Census (SP), Agricultural Census (ST), and Economic Census (SE), each of which is carried out once every ten years. Furthermore, in the Government Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia Number 51 of 1999 concerning the Implementation of Statistics is stated that the time for the SP to be held is in the year ending with the number 0 (zero), ST in the year ending with the number 3 (three), and SE in the year ending with the number 6 (six).

BPS has been carrying out the Agricultural Census since 1963. Thus, the upcoming 2023 Agricultural Census (ST2023) will be the seventh agricultural census since Indonesia's independence, with the theme "Recording Indonesian Agriculture for Food Sovereignty and Farmer Welfare". ST2023 is a big activity so the preparation and implementation are carried out in several stages. One of the stages that must be carried out is coordination, both with internal parties, especially with external parties, namely the Regional Government and related Regional Apparatus Organization

Through this coordination meeting, the Regional Secretary of West Sulawesi Province, Dr. Muhammad Idris, M.Si conveyed the West Sulawesi Provincial Government's support for the implementation of ST2023. This is because this agricultural data will later become one of the bases in determining regional policies, in order to address strategic issues regarding food sovereignty and farmer welfare in West Sulawesi. After the opening by the Regional Secretary and the Head of West Sulawesi Province BPS, the Rakorda was followed by the presentation of material by the Head of the Regional Development Planning Agency of West Sulawesi Province Dr. H. Junda Maulana, Young Expert Statistician BPS RI Mr. Hermanto, and Head of Mainstay Farmers and Fishermen Contact of West Sulawesi Province, Mr. Drs. Nawawi Muin.

Relevant Regional Apparatus Organization leaders including the Head of the Agriculture Service and the Head of the Fisheries Service of Mamasa Regency attended the Rakorda in person and stated they were ready to collaborate in recording Indonesian agriculture for food sovereignty and farmer welfare for the success and smooth implementation of the 2023 Agricultural Census (ST2023) and the realization of collaboration from all related Regional Apparatus Organization
