Rural Price Survey March 2025: Monitoring the Development of Food and Non-Food Commodity Prices

March 10, 2025 | BPS Activities

[Mamasa, March 10, 2025] - The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) of Mamasa Regency conducted supervision of BPS Mamasa Regency's monthly survey, the Survey of Rural Prices (SHPED). This survey aims to obtain food and non-food commodity prices. These prices will be used to calculate the Farmer Exchange Rate (NTP) which is estimated at the provincial level. To obtain representative results, 8 sub-districts in Mamasa district were selected as samples.

SHPED data collection was conducted by BPS partners in Mamasa District on the 10th to 18th of each month. Supervision by organic employees aims to ensure that the data collection is carried out in accordance with the SOP and that the data collection results are in accordance with the actual conditions. Some of the commodities whose prices were recorded were shallots, garlic, red chili, cayenne pepper, and rice for food commodities and clothes, shoes, plates, glasses, and oil for non-food commodities.

Aan Setyawan, the Head of Mamasa District BPS, told the March SHPED supervisors to pay more attention to the commodities of cayenne pepper, red chili, coconut, and rice. “March SHPED supervisors are requested to pay attention and compare the prices of cayenne pepper, red chili, coconut, and rice this week with last week because these four food commodities have seen an increase recently,” he said.

The prices of cayenne pepper, red chili, and coconut increased while the price of rice remained the same. The price of cayenne pepper increased by around 35% from last week, red chili by around 15%, and coconut by around 30%. The increase in chili commodities is thought to be due to the high rainfall in Mamasa Regency, reaching 80-99%. Meanwhile, coconut commodities tend to rise because coconuts are widely used for copra so that the stock of coconuts sold is small.

With support from various related parties, it is hoped that the results of the March 2025 SHPED can provide accurate and reliable information.
