[Mamasa, June 3, 2025] — The Head of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) of Mamasa Regency attended the Cheap Food Movement (GPM) event organized by the West Sulawesi Provincial Food Security Agency in collaboration with the Mamasa Regency Government. The event was held at Kondosapata Field, Mamasa, as part of efforts to stabilize food supply and prices ahead of Eid al-Adha.
Also present at the event were the Regent of Mamasa, the Deputy Regent, the Regional Secretary of Mamasa Regency, and members of the Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID) of Mamasa. Their presence underscored a shared commitment to maintaining price stability and food availability for the community.
The Cheap Food Movement is a government initiative aimed at providing staple food items at affordable prices. During the event, the public could purchase food commodities at prices lower than market rates, including rice supplied by the State Logistics Agency (Bulog).
The Head of BPS Mamasa Regency stated that BPS’s role in this initiative is to provide accurate and up-to-date price statistics. The data is obtained through the Rural Price Survey (SHPED), conducted monthly in eight sample sub-districts across Mamasa Regency. The survey records the prices of food commodities such as rice, shallots, and chili, as well as non-food commodities like clothing and household equipment.
The data collected by BPS is used to calculate economic indicators such as the Farmer’s Terms of Trade (NTP) and assists the government in formulating price stabilization policies. With accurate information, the government can take appropriate measures to safeguard people’s purchasing power and ensure farmers' welfare.
The GPM event was well-received by the Mamasa community. Residents expressed appreciation for the affordable market, which made essential goods more accessible. The West Sulawesi Provincial Government plans to continue holding GPM events regularly until the end of 2025 as part of its efforts to maintain food price stability and availability in the region.
With strong synergy between local government, BPS, and the community, it is hoped that food price stability can be maintained, especially ahead of major religious holidays such as Eid al-Adha.
